How Breast Reconstruction Works?

Breast reconstruction surgery is performed in the operating room. A silicone implant that has the volume of the removed breast tissue will be selected. The surgical technique is usually decided during the operation according to the breast tissue to be removed.

What is the Recovery Period?

You need to stay under observation in the hospital for 4 or 5 days. It is very important to stay in the hospital so that we can keep your pain under control.  A drain will be inserted to relieve the breast tissue. Drains will be removed 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. It takes about 10 days to remove the stitches in the breast. It takes 1 to 2 months for the person to return to her normal life.

Who Can Have Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

Breast reconstruction surgery is performed on patients whose breasts have been removed due to any trauma or cancer. Losing the breast is both a psychological and visual challenge for the patient. Aiming to rescue the patient from this trauma, breast reconstruction provides rather satisfactory results.

In some cases, breast reconstruction is performed together with the cancer surgery. This is often preferred, because it makes the patient feel much better psychologically after the surgery.
